An old anti-Semitic poster

By Kai Kjær-Hansen

Finnish Magnus Riska took a photo on his mobile phone of an old anti-Semitic poster. A relic from the past or ... ?

Magnus Riska, former pastor at Immanuel Church in Jaffo, participated in the LCJE conference at Lake Balaton. In a shop in the conference town Kesztheley, he saw this poster for sale.

The poster is old, so it may be evidence of anti-Semitism in the past. But the poster is hardly on display for the purpose of shedding light on Hungary’s past history of anti-Semitism. The fact that it is for sale today is not quite innocent.

Placed on the wall in a room, it adds fuel to the flames of anti-Semitism today.

I do not know if there is more anti-Semitism in Hungary today than in other European countries. In any case, we should be alert to any form of anti-Semitism, be it “small” or “big”. This also goes for a network like LCJE.

As International Coordinator of LCJE, I note that in the statements LCJE formulates about mission to Jews there is also a strong dissociation from any form of anti-Semitism.
